CANNING MAPLE SYRUP
Why can maple syrup when the shelf life is long?
Prices are going up and canning doubles or triples the shelf life! By doing this, we lock in today’s grocery prices and save money in the long run.
How to can Maple Syrup:
Step 1- Fill mason jars with maple syrup. Add in dried fruit if you wish to flavor. Boil lids and rings to help with sterilizing and seals.
Step 2 - Remove lids from boiling water and place on filled jars. Tighten rings to finger tight.
Step 3 - Fill steam canner with correct amount of water. Place on lid and bring up to heat. Process for 10 minutes, adjust for elevation zone.
Step 4 - After processing, allow canner to cool for 5-10 minutes. Open canner and allow to cool for 5-10 more minutes.
Step 5 - Remove from canner and allow to set on counter for 24 hours.
Step 6 - Remove rings, label, and move to long term storage.
